Frequently Asked Questions about the KCC Library

24/7 - OverDrive

Many of the library's resources are available electronically to all currently enrolled students twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.  From the library's web page: you can access:

  • Ebook Central
  • NoodleTools
  • the Kirtland catalog
  • Films on Demand
  • Gale Virtual Reference Library
  • OverDrive (see below for OverDrive access information)
  • other databases and additional resources.

You may need to use your single sign on (what you use to sign in to your Canvas course) to gain access.

To borrow eBooks and downloadable audio from Kirtland's OverDrive collection, you must have a library application on file with Kirtland Library.

Online students:

  1. Fill out an application by going to the library's home page -
  2. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the blue "Library Card Application" link.
  3. Fill out the form and submit.
  4. Within 1-2 business days, the library staff will activate your account and send you, via Kmail, a temporary password/PIN.

How do I borrow and return items?

If you are a Kirtland student enrolled in a course that meets online or at a location other than Roscommon or Grayling, contact the Library (by telephone or email) and we will be happy to arrange delivery of library items.

  • As an off-campus student, you can choose to have books mailed to you.  Contact us to request your items and that they be mailed.  We have found the U.S. Mail to be very reliable, but please do factor delivery time into your plans.  If you need materials mailed but have never used the library before, you will need to complete a library card application.  You will find the library card application link toward the very bottom of the library’s web page.
  • We can arrange to have your items available at one of the sites listed in the box below.  Please note that you will need the identification described for each location.

How do I return borrowed items?

You can return borrowed items through the mail (you pay postage), to the Library (Roscommon), to the LIbrary/Resource Center (Grayling), or to the after-hours drop box located outside the Library entrance ( Roscommon).  If you are near M-TEC in Gaylord, you may return items to the M-TEC office and the items will be returned to the central campus within a few days.

If you are a Kirtland student enrolled in a course that meets in Roscommon or Grayling, stop in and pick up your materials.

What if I need my items ASAP?

We can't guarantee how long it will take the U.S. Mail to deliver your item.  If you want the materials ASAP, the quickest way to get them is to contact the library to make sure of the item's availability and location (Roscommon or Grayling), and  then go to that location to check it out.

We can also arrange to have materials delivered to the Kirtland location most convenient to you:

  • Central campus in Roscommon - You will need to show your current KCC student ID to check out items.
  • Health Sciences Center in Grayling - You will need to show your current KCC student ID to check out items.
  • M-TEC in Gaylord -  You may be asked to show a current photo ID to pick up items.

Your initial student ID is issued free of charge, but you do need your driver's license or state ID.  You can get your student ID immediately at the Student Services Office in Grayling. If you are closer to Roscommon, you can get your photo taken at Public Safety on Central campus (located in the lower level of the Administration Building).  They will submit your photo to the Student Services Office, and your ID will be mailed to you.

Kirtland Library hours are posted on the library’s web page

Where do I go for tutoring?

Currently enrolled Kirtland students can receive tutoring, and there is no charge.  Besides the OWL (Online Writing Lab) and the Virtual Writing Center, which are great ways to get the writing help you need, you can also come to any of our tutoring labs and centers.

Kirtland offers a Writing Center on the Roscommon campus, at the Kirtland Health Sciences Center at Grayling, and at M-TEC in Gaylord.

There’s no appointment needed for math help in the Drop-In Math Labs.  They are located on the Roscommon campus and at the Kirtland Health Sciences Center at Grayling

In addition to the Writing Centers and Drop-In Math Labs, Kirtland’s tutoring program strives to provide assistance in most subjects.  See the tutoring page  or contact the Tutoring Center in the Library for more information about tutoring services.

Contact the Tutoring Center in the Library for information about summer tutoring services.
