NoodleTools and How It Works: Creating a Notecard

This guide will walk you through the steps of setting up a NoodleTools ID as a Kirtland student.

Notecard Choices

Once you create and open a project in NoodleTools, there are two ways to create and access your notecards: the Notecards and Sources screens. Since you can view and edit all of your notecards in either screen, you’ll find that you develop a preference for working in either the Notecards or Sources screen as you take notes.

Print notecards from the Notecards screen.

Create a Notecard

If a notecard is created from the Sources screen, it is automatically associated with a particular source.

1. On the Sources screen, click “New” in the Notecards column next to a reference.

2. Your new notecard is automatically associated with the source that you are working with.

3. Input notes about your source.  Hover over the question marks for tips on how to use this notecard format.

4. Your notecard gets saved automatically as you add information. When you are done, click Save and Close to save your final changes and close the window.

To Edit from the Sources Screen:

1. In the Notecard column, click “Show” to view the notecard, then select Edit on the notecard's Options menu.

2. When you finish editing the notecard, click Save to save your changes and close the window.

Tabletop:

The tabletop allows you to sort and pile your cards. To work on the tabletop, leave the Sources page by clicking Notecards in the navigation bar at top.  You will now see the notecards Tabletop. New notecards appear in the upper left corner of your tabletop and in the bird's eye view

Notecards created from the Notecards screen can be tied to a particular source, but it is not done automatically.  A “thought card” (a notecard that contains your own thoughts or a reminder to yourself, not tied to any reference in your source list) can only be created from the Notecards screen.

1. Click Notecards in the navigation bar at top.

2. On the Notecard Tabletop, click New.

3. When creating a notecard on the notecards page, it is not automatically associated with a source.  If you want to associate it with a source, you must select the source from a dropdown list when you are creating the notecard.

4. Input notes about your source.  Hover over the question marks for tips on how to use this notecard format.

5. Your notecard gets saved automatically as you add information. When you are done, click Save and Close to save your final changes and close the window. New notecards appear in the upper left corner of your tabletop and in the bird's eye view

To Edit from the Notecards Screen:

1. On the Notecard Tabletop view, hover over a notecard (or long-press a notecard on an iPad) and click Edit.

2. On the Notecard Detail view, click Edit at the lower right corner of any notecard in the middle panel.

3. When you finish editing the notecard, click Save to save your changes and close the window.

Tip

TIP: Once you've created multiple notecards, you can pile them. Drag a notecard and drop it on another notecard to create a new pile, or use the Manage pile option above the tabletop to manage existing and create new piles with selected notecards.
