The Writing Center, OWL and Virtual Writing Center: What is Citation Boot Camp - Also Known As CBC?

Your writing resource center with help from brainstorming to polishing your papers.

Citation Boot Camp Defined

The Citation Boot Camp (CBC)  is a short  2 module mini-course in Canvas designed to help students understand what citation is so that they can avoid making mistakes that would cause them to fail a paper due to plagiarism. Students are referred to the CBC by their instructor who fills out Writing Referral Form found under the Library Bookmarks on the Faculty page of myKirtland, or the instructor may request to have their students enrolled in this mini-Canvas course. Please note, students may email the Writing Center to sign up for CBC themselves.

The CBC is available to help students, who may be confused or not understand what citing means and learn how to make ethical writing decisions so that they can avoid plagiarism. This mini-course contains a Pre-Test, 2 quizzes, 1 assignment and a Post-Test. A student must pass the mini-course with perfect scores since there are 2 quizzes, 1 assignment and 1 Post-Test that are scored. Ask questions if you don't understand something as our writing tutors are here to help.

Our goal is to help students make ethical and logical choices when citing sources. You cite sources to prove that you know what you are talking about, to use respected experts to support your position, to give credit and recognition to those who have done the research and data gathering, to create space or room for your argument and/or research and open pathways to new or expanded ideas, and because you are using someone else's words, ideas, work.
