Resources for completing the end of semester project

What are eBooks?

Ebooks are digital versions of books that can be accessed and read online, or downloaded for offline viewing.

The Kirtland Library ebook collection offers a wide variety of resources that you can access online, anytime, anywhere.

Benefits to using ebooks:

  • 24/7 availability
  • Easily search the contents of the ebook to find specific search terms or subjects
  • Use filters to narrow your results and find the best source

The Kirtland Library has three main platforms for accessing ebooks:

  • Ebook Central
  • Gale Ebooks
  • EBSCO Ebooks

Each platform has different options, which is why they may look different from one another.

Gale Ebooks

Click here to open Gale Ebooks and use your Kirtland single sign-on to access.

Enter your search term(s) in the "Search ebooks" box at the top of the page. 

You can also search Gale Ebooks by Subject Collection. Select a subject on the left side of the page to view related ebooks.

This video will show you how to search effectively on Ebook Central.

From your search results, click on a book title to view more information about the book. This page contains a description, publication date and publisher, and table of contents. 

Use the Table of Contents to select a chapter or section and begin reading. 

Read on the page, or select "Book View" from the top toolbar to display the text in book view.

Ebook Central

Click here to open Ebook Central and use your Kirtland single sign-on to access.

Enter your search term(s) in the "Search ebooks" box at the top of the page. The total number of book results is shown under your search term(s) on the results page.

This video will show you how to do a basic search on Ebook Central.

Limit your results by using the filters (on the left side of the screen) like subject, language, year published, and more. 

Use the "Sort By" options to organize your results. The default is to have results sorted by relevance, which means that the books at the top of the list includes your search term(s) more than items towards the bottom of the list.

From your search results, click on a book title to open the Book Detail Page. This page contains a description, publication date and publisher, and table of contents. 

Click on the book title to view the book detail page.

To read, simply click on the "Read Online" button below the image of the book cover. Or, use the Table of Contents on the to jump to a specific chapter.

The book will open, and you can search, scroll, and navigate the book in your browser. Ebook Central offers some options for downloading or printing. You can download individual pages or chapters if the publisher allows access.
