APA Student Paper Checklist

Click here to get a checklist that you can use to make sure your paper you've met all the guidelines for APA formatting. This checklist references the APA Style Concise Guide, 7th Edition. Copies of the guide are at the Kirtland Library.

The Writing Center

Kirtland Writing Center

One-on-one writing assistance is provided in person, via email, or via Zoom, free to all Kirtland students, faculty, and staff.

In Person (Fall and Winter semesters only)

Set up an appointment by emailing owl@kirtland.edu for in-person help on the Grayling campus. or drop in during open hours. Students will be helped on a first-come, first-served basis.

Online Appointments

Schedule an appointment to meet one-on-one via Zoom or Google Docs with a Writing Center tutor by emailing owl@kirtland.edu.

Online Writing Lab (OWL)

The OWL provides online writing assistance via email when it is not possible to meet in-person with a Writing Center tutor. Allow up to 48 hours for a response. Plan ahead and keep in mind your specific due dates. Submissions received Friday-Sunday will receive a response within 48 hours of the college reopening the following week.

Submitting Your Writing

  • Contact owl@kirtland.edu using your Kirtland email. 

  • Be sure to include the following information in your email:

    • Your name, the course name, and the name of your instructor.

    • Specific details of how the tutor can help you (look at my thesis for evidence; help me with commas; make suggestions for organizing my paper; how to format using APA or MLA, etc.)

    • Specifications or a rubric for your assignment.

  • Submit your assignment as an attachment, making sure that it meets the following guidelines:

    • Up to five, double-spaced pages of written text.

    • Formatted as a Google Doc or Microsoft Word file

The tutor will not proofread or correct your writing, but will offer suggestions to improve your work and help you make ethical writing choices.
